Immediately Provisionalized Dental Implants

Advances in dental techniques now allow for the placement of immediately provisionalized crowns in certain cases when implants are newly placed. In the past, patients had to wait three months while the implants healed before having crowns placed, using flimsy "flippers" or other less than ideal options to fill the space in the meantime. When conditions are appropriate for immediate provisionalization, a temporary crown is attached to the dental implant for the duration of the healing process, making your smile almost like new without the lengthy waiting period. These temporary crowns help shape the gumline, creating a much more natural and aesthetic result. After the dental implant has healed, a new, more permanent porcelain crown is placed.

Within an hour of this patient's tooth extraction, an implant and abutment were placed.  An immediately provisionalized implant was then attached, giving the patient a near-original tooth replacement while waiting for the final crown.  During this time, the implant integrates into the bone and gum, providing a secure base for the final implant.  About three months later, Dr. Rosenfeld checks to ensure the final crown will match the color of the patient's natural teeth before the final crown is placed.
