Closing Spaces
Dental bonding is a popular, minimally invasive way to close small gaps or spaces between teeth, often referred to as "diastemas." Here’s how it works and what to consider:
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding involves applying a tooth-colored resin material to the teeth to reshape or lengthen them. The resin is sculpted to fill in spaces and match the natural appearance of your teeth. Once shaped, the resin is hardened using a special light, then polished to give a seamless, natural look.
How Dental Bonding Closes Gaps
- Preparation: The tooth surface is lightly etched and conditioned to help the bonding material adhere.
- Application: A composite resin is applied to the area where there’s a gap.
- Shaping and Sculpting: The dentist sculpts the resin to blend with the teeth on either side of the gap.
- Curing: A special light hardens the resin, bonding it securely to the tooth.
- Finishing Touches: The bonded area is smoothed and polished to match the sheen and texture of the surrounding teeth.
